Manipulative People
Manipulative people are all around us. Some people learn a manipulation behavior due to their profession or context, and exercise their tactics upon others to obtain certain things, at certain times. This is a learned behavior and proves useful in areas like advertising or politics.
But there are those manipulative people that act more as predatory beings than social entities. If someone shows more than five manipulative personality traits, specialists are inclined to classify that person as a pathological manipulator.
Manipulative people manipulate, because they do not know any other behavior, because they are unaware of their current behavior and cant, almost never, be taught to adopt less controlling behavior patterns in their relationships. They operate on guilt and prey on their victim’s good will and innocence.
MANIPULATIVE PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS MANIPULATIVE
We all live in a realm of manipulation, either being manipulated or manipulating to some degree. But there is a threshold beyond which, the small influences and little manipulation outbursts, become destructive, and there are manipulative people who would go there.
To be clear, I am not referring to those who practice manipulation as a job, as in publicity, marketing and so on. They are manipulative people when they are working. I’m not even speaking of politics and their heavenly hell of manipulation gone array. This is about the everyday persons, the everyday life, the ordinary life, if you will. Manipulation is not reserved only to professionals. Manipulative people are people who have a manipulative personality. It is who they are and they are ordinary people who practice manipulation like they were professionals.
MANIPULATIVE PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE
Have you ever felt an unusual state of tension? Is there a person in your life that is always present, in spirit and in your mind so that you often find yourselves speaking of that person to the point of becoming obsessive? How does this person influence you? Have you began to doubt your abilities and own judgment? Are you constantly haunted by an acute sense of inferiority? Does it seem really hard to communicate with other people around you? Well… Congratulations! There may be a person with a manipulative personality in your life.
It can be your father, daughter, husband, wife, boss, friend, lover, work colleague etc. Persons close to us. So close that, most of the times we can’t see the forest because of the trees. Statistically, each of us will encounter at least one person suffering from manipulative personality disorder during our lifetime.
HOW DO MANIPULATIVE PEOPLE WORK?
Let’s see if we have already encountered any manipulative people. And if not, and we should all be so lucky, let us make sure we will be able to identify manipulative personalities in the near future. Here are some guidelines for future articles:
- Information to help us identify manipulative people, describing how they operate. Did you know there is the charming seductive manipulative type? Or the selfless manipulative personality?
- Manipulative people traits; for a better understanding of their mechanisms used to control people around them.
- How to protect yourself and avoid the influence of manipulative people.
We will analyze many situations from the victim’s perspective, but we will also take a look at how manipulative people manage to induce guilt in their victims, how they can pose as innocent and as victims themselves, how they communicate; how do manipulative people divide and conquer?
Also, I wish to share some methods of keeping safe from manipulation, of liberating yourself from the influence of manipulative people, especially through self-affirmation and by learning to say ‘no’ when you do not wish to do something, without feeling any guilt.
THE MANIPULATOR WITHIN
Do not kid yourself. You may not only be a victim of a manipulator, you may also be a manipulator yourself, but still unaware of it, as most manipulative people are. There is also a pattern I’d like to point out. Once the victim of a manipulator, you can consider yourself schooled in the ways of manipulation, even inclined to use the same methods of communication as manipulative people since, it is quite possible, manipulation in communication is all you truly know and understand.
